本当はもっと早く読む予定だった作品。NRの三部作のせいで予定より遅くなりました。

ヒロインの境遇には何度も涙しそうになりました。後半の展開があわただしく、ラストもやや極端な感じだったせいか、引き込まれて読んだ割には読後の余韻に浸れなかったので星が一つ減りました。。でも感動的な作品で、読んで良かったです。
若くしてDukeの爵位を継いだRobertですが、おなじ年頃で公爵になったWulf（Slightly Dangerous)と比べるとかなり世間知らずな印象（比べちゃいけない？）。
著者が後書きで触れていますが、Duke of Wellingtonの愛人でもあったCourtesan、Harriette Willsonやその姉妹たち、当時の政治家Henry BroughamやCastlereaghなど、実在の人物を登場させているので勉強になりました。
