それなりに面白かったけど、期待していたほどではなかったです。
前半は引き込まれて読み進みましたが、中盤以降、徐々にペースダウンしてしまいました。
奴隷制が廃止される前のイギリスが舞台で、ヒロインのMariはロシアの農奴の娘。女盗賊も絡んでくる、という興味深い設定だったので、もっと刺激的な作品(sexyとかいう意味ではなくて、ストーリーとして）を想像していましたが、少し物足りなかったです。そのあたりは、Spymaster's Ladyのあとに読んだせいも大いにありかもしれません…。
ヒロインとヒーローの苦悩はとってもよく描かれていたと思いますが、前半は興味をひかれたsecondary charactorたちの役割が、最終的には中途半端な感じがしました。ヒロインの親友の一人、Hesterの行動は理解できなかったし…。

余談ですが、ヒーローがヒロインに向かって“One word from you will silence me forever”　“Surely you must know…”と言う場面がありました。P&P のMM＠Darcyのセリフです（原作は邦訳版しか読んでいないのでわからないし、BBC版は覚えていない）。MMの美声が響いてきましたよ。
