作者が昔、Woodiwissの　Wolf and the Dove　を読んで、「将来こんなストーリーを自分でも書きたい」と思ったそうですが、ああ、あのタイプの話が好みなら〜となんとなく納得しました。デビュー作とはいえ、年齢的にはあの世代の作家さんなんですね・・・。(炎と花etc.WAD以外は邦訳版で読んだので、何となくわかります）
どちらも"rape occurring without violence"のシーンがあります。WADでは舞台が中世だったし、CTCほど細かい描写はありませんでした。その分、CTCのほうがショッキングな作品だと思います。
前半のKylemore公爵の行動は不快に感じましたが、全体的に公爵とVerityの心理描写が優れていた点と、人格形成に影響を与えるほどの重たい過去を引きずっている二人だということも理解できる筆運びだったので、思ったよりも引き込まれて読み進みました。
でもこういうタイプの小説をもう一冊読みたいとは思わないし、邦訳ではぜったい読みたくないです。公爵の母親をここまで悪女に仕立てなくても良いのに・・・実の母がこうだと救いようがないじゃないか・・・
